Crooks...

I'm angry. I was amazed by something stupid today. So stupid that I felt the need to write about it.

I went to the library today to meet Amy, and ended up finding a couple books to chek out. I went to the counter and told the lady (who i used to work with) about my late fee that I knew I had. I assumed it would be about $2.00 since that's all I thought they could charge for late books and stuff. That's all I have ever had to pay before. So, she pulled up my screen, and with a kind of smirk, she told me that I owed $74.10. I of course laughed and so did she, as she continued to look through my file, seeing how many things were late, and how late they were. I looked at Amy, and her eyes got really big. I asked her what the problem was, and she said that the lady wasn't kidding. She could see the screen and it really was $74.10!

I didn't know that the FREE public library was even allowed to make you pay such outsanding amounts for overdue things. And it's not like the books were THAT late, I think mabe just a week or maybe two...not years.

So as she went through my file, she said that the Cd's and software things I checked out had higher late fees, and something about each item has it's own late fee and they can charge up to a certain dollar amount for each thing, and whatever.

So, she said she would try and get the fees down for me, so it wasn't so much, and thank goodness since I had come in expecting to pay the $2.00...

So after she typed away at the computer for a few seconds, she updated my file. She said that, "oops" she "accidentally" deleted the whole record, so i owed nothing. Damn straight, that was a ridicuolous fine for somehing like that...but then again I guess it makes sense. It keeps people in line because I can guarantee you that I will never EVER do that again.

I would have at least paid part of it, but she took care of it for me. I guess it really does pay to know people in this town.

Oh yeah, and BE KIND, REWIND YOUR MOVIES...they probably charge for that too...in fact, yeah I really think they do....CROOKS.. :)
